Toronto-Islands

August 2015 – Toronto: it’s a perfect Summer day, you want to take a break, escape the city but do not have a lot of time nor money.  Why not escape to the Islands….that’s Toronto Islands!

A short 15-minute boat ride brings you to a green oasis. The 3 main islands are connected to each other.  If you arrive by the Central Island, walk all the way across the island and you’re at the beach, with magestic lake Ontario in front of you!  You will feel miles away from the city!!

Here’s how to plan your escape :

The ferries leave every half-hour from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, right behind the Westin Harbour Castle hotel on Queens Quay (between Yonge & Bay). The fare (7.25 CAD for 1 adult) includes return. I took the ferry to Central Island (the main island), but there are 2 other routes you can choose from.  You can bring your bicycle on the boats.

Food : the islands are the perfect spot for a pique-nique! Pack a nice lunch before you board and hunt for the perfect spot to enjoy it! There are a few restaurants on site, but selection and quality of food is limited and a bit expensive.

Activities to enjoy : the beach, the water, the bicycle and hiking trails, take some photographs or just lie under a tree! For children, there’s the “Centreville” amusement park (but be warned : it’s the noisiest part of the island).

A simple and easy way to get some fresh air and enjoy Summer…near the city!
